Beneath the sun of Santiponce, the outlines of Itálica still emerge: its streets, its grand houses, its mosaics, baths, theatre and amphitheatre. Emperors were born here; politics was conducted, trade flourished, banquets and spectacles were held, and everyday life left traces that can still be read today.
This book invites us to see Itálica once again as a living city: to understand why its avenues were so wide, what stories its mosaics told, how its baths worked, what took place beneath the amphitheatre arena, and how much of the ancient city still lies hidden beneath present-day Santiponce.
